Background suppression in the COSINUS experiment: Active muon veto and radiopure materials selection

چکیده
For over twenty-five years the DAMA/LIBRA experiment has reported an annual modulation signal that is consistent with a dark matter explanation. This is, currently, in tension null results observed by other searches utilize different target detectors. The COSINUS will perform model-independent cross-check of result using same material, NaI crystals, operated as scintillating calorimeters. By measuring both temperature and light crystals be able to distinguish between electron nuclear recoils on event-by-event basis. However, background events induced cosmic-rays, environmental radioactivity or intrinsic contamination materials used crystal, shielding infrastructure can pose issue any analysis must fully understood. We report status development simulation for active water Cherenkov muon veto, well beginning radiogenic material screening.

Semi-Active Pulse-Switching SSDC Vibration Suppression using Magnetostrictive Materials
One of the best vibration control methods using smart actuators are semi-active approaches which are as strong as active methods and need no external energy supply such as passive ones. Compared with piezoelectric-based, magnetostrictive-based control methods have higher coupling efficiency, higher Curie temperature, higher flexibility to be integrated with curved structures and no depolarizati...
متن کاملSystematics and background suppression in the KATRIN experiment
Recent neutrino mass experiments at Mainz and Troitsk using tritium β-decay have reached their sensitivity potential, yielding upper limits of about 2 eV/c for m(ν̄e). The KArlsruhe TRItium Neutrino experiment (KATRIN), designed to reach a sensitivity of m(ν̄e) = 0.2 eV/c 2 (90% C.L.), will improve the signal rate by a factor of about 100 with respect to previous experiments while maintaining the...
متن کاملMuon Cooling, Muon Colliders, and the MICE Experiment
Muon colliders and neutrino factories are attractive options for future facilities aimed at achieving the highest lepton-antilepton collision energies and precision measurements of parameters of the Higgs boson and the neutrino mixing matrix. The performance and cost of these depend on how well a beam of muons can be cooled. Recent progress in muon cooling design studies and prototype tests nou...
متن کاملThe Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment
Relativistic heavy ion beams are an intense source of (quasireal) photons with a spectrum extending up to several hundred GeV, due to the high charge Z and the large energy of the ions. In this note we discuss the possibility of using this in peripheral collisions for photon-photon physics. We discuss the total luminosities that can be achieved with diierent ion species. In order to suppress ce...
